Lankford Company Honored as Family Owned Business of the Year
Corpus Christi, TX – The U.S. Small Business Association honored Corpus Christi-based Lankford Company as the 2013 Family Owned Business of the Year for District IV of Texas.
Founded more than 80 years ago, Lankford Company is a nationally-recognized leader in surface preparation, painting and coatings applications for the wind energy, petroleum, petrochemical and transportation industry. The firm serves clients nationwide, both on and offshore.
The expansion of wind energy towers positioned Lankford Company for explosive growth. With years of experience servicing remote towers at refineries, offshore oil rigs and power plants, the ability to access and repair wind turbines naturally followed, earning the company a position as the preferred wind tower maintenance and repair contractor for notable wind energy tower manufacturers such as Siemans and Gamesa. This development enabled the company to thrive even amid an economic downturn. In the last two years, the company nearly tripled its annual revenues and expanded its workforce by 40 percent.
Lankford Company has invested in the latest wind energy up tower access platforms, as well as state of the art safety and industry training for its staff. In 2012, it acquired additional equipment that allows its personnel to safely service 2.3 megawatt wind towers, where the distance between the turbine and the blade is 45 feet.
The company has completed thousands of Painting Tower Access Platform projects in addition to work on wind farms, including power generation projects, offshore drilling rig maintenance and repair, marine and shipyard needs, and structural steel for fabricators and process plants.
Founded in 1928 by W.E. Lankford, Lankford Company is now under the third generation of family leadership. Company President James Lankford took over the company from his father in 1995. He is a member of the American Wind Energy Association and NACE International, The Society for Protective Coatings (SSPC), and the Contractor Safety Council. James also serves on the Buccaneer Commission, a group of business leaders that raises money for youth scholarships. He is a graduate of Texas A&M University - College Station with a Bachelor of Science in Engineering Technology. For more information, visit www.lankfordcompany.com.
